Scot's Mailing list / Email arrives via multiple strange email addresses

Email arrives via multiple strange email addresses

If you send a test message and see that it comes in with several strange looking email addresses, it's because your "real name" settings are off.

Go to the scotmail system configuration from the main admin screen and change the following settings:

Add angle brackets: YES
Use real names: YES
Add quotes to name: NO

The kinds of email addresses that show up as sending the message while this problem exists will be based on your "real name" because it's not being recognized by your email client and/or the SMTP server. For example, if I used "Scot Ranney, ScotsScripts" as my real name and had this problem, the email addresses might look something like this:

  • scot@333-000.yourhost.com
  • ranney@333.00002.yourhost.com
  • ScotsScripts@333.09999.yourhost.com
